Review of The Genesis Flaw by David Robinson from L.I.V.E

October 20, 2010

‘People are “awakened to what’s happening” by many different paths. A thriller novel is one of these paths. It just happens to be one of the better ways of becoming aware.’ David Robinson from L.I.V.E on my eco thriller

L.I.V.E stands for Locals Into Victoria’s Environment and David popped along at my recent talk on environmental thrillers in Port Melbourne. I very much support his sterling efforts raising awareness of climate change and was delighted when he wrote this review of my novel:

‘I finished The Genesis Flaw in two days, interspersing reading a few chapters at a time with updates to my website http://www.live.org.au. Sometimes I “tease out” reading a book. It adds to the suspense.
The Genesis Flaw was fantastic! It is a really fast paced thriller in the style of Robert Ludlum’s Bourne Identity series. The main difference is the hero is a feisty woman who never gives up, no matter how bad the situation gets. I just can’t wait for the film to come out!
As a climate change activist my interest in Genetically Modified Foods has been minimal up until now. But I can believe that GM companies are just as powerful, and ruthless in protecting their vested interests, as the companies who rely on burning fossil fuel. OK, The Genesis Flaw is a work of fiction, but it is so good to be introduced to a subject via a book that explains the issues so clearly, in layman’s terms.
People are “awakened to what’s happening” by many different paths. A thriller novel is one of these paths. It just happens to be one of the better ways of becoming aware.’

“Deserves comparisons to Michael Crichton and John Grisham” ABC North Queensland

October 10, 2010

On the Morning Show with Paula Tapiolas, 9 Sept 2010, Kate Eltham from the Queensland Writer’s Centre said The Genesis Flaw deserves comparison to Michael Crichton and John Grisham. Wow! What an honour.

Here is the full review:

We’re so often plastered with splashy American mass-market thrillers that it’s really heartening to see a futuristic enviro-thriller of this calibre punching hard in this category, especially from a debut Australian writer and a quality smaller Australian publishing house.

The Genesis Flaw is set in a future world where the world is dependent on genetically modified (GM) food. Advertising executive Serena Swift uncovers a shocking cover-up by the world’s largest GM food company – Gene-Asis. She goes undercover to expose their secrets only to find herself framed for murder and on the run.

Smart, well-researched science creates a solid bedrock for this pacy thriller which deserves comparisons to Michael Crichton and John Grisham.
