I am horrified to discover that the foremost English-language library in the southern hemisphere, Sydney University’s Fisher Library, is to get rid of 500,000 books and journals as part of a Federal Government organised restructure. What are they thinking! NSW Libraries has a mandate to only keep ONE copy of every title and we all know how easily a book can disappear, never to be seen again. Books are a record of our civilisation, of man’s progress throughout history. The printed book is under threat and therefore these old printed copies are even more valuable. http://www.quadrant.org.au/magazine/issue/2011/7-8/the-great-purge-of-our-libraries
