I have met many authors in my time. Some are international bestsellers and masters of their genre, as is Peter James, with whom Louisa Bennet had lunch today at his house in Sussex. Unfortunately I couldn’t go: too busy paw-signing books in bookshops. Someone has to do the hard yards!

But few authors are as warm and generous as Peter is with his time and support of others. He is a true gentleman and a wonderful author, and, best of all, a dog lover. That puts him at the top of my Christmas card list.

Louisa tells me she met Lara, Peter’s gorgeous wife, who is a true animal lover too, as well as Oscar and Spook, and they all made her feel totally at home.
