SheKilda3 in Melbourne, Australia, was a huge success and I want to thank Sisters In Crime and especially Carmel Shute, Lindy Cameron and Sue Turnbull for their hard work and dedication.
Sisters in Crime President, Vivienne Colmer, said:
‘Authors and crime buffs came from all over the country – from Cairns to Hobart, Sydney to Perth –with everyone commenting on the stimulating debates, both on stage and elsewhere. The authors and other speakers raved about how inspiring it was to get together with their peers – on both a professional and social level. One author declared it was life-changing.’
For me it was a chance to reconnect with Australia’s best female crime fiction authors – Angela Savage, Sulari Gentill, Leigh Redhead, Kerry Greenwood, Honey Brown to name but a few – and to remind myself that even though I spend a lot of time writing alone, I can pick up the phone and connect with my Sisters In Crime. It was also an opportunity to applaud new talent at the 23rd Scarlet Stiletto Short Story Awards.
Most important of all, it was huge fun for writers and readers alike. I can’t wait until the next SheKilda convention.
